Autodesk Buys Softimage

Well i think you can say this came as a big suprise for all of us. Not sure how i feel about this really but surely Autodesk owning 3dMax, Maya and XSI cannot be a good thing for the industry.

I suppose only time will tell but i have concerns to say the least. I love using XSI and hope it continues as a innovative cutting edge product, and above all i hope autodesk do not get greedy and raise the price too much.

My thoughts go out to the Softimage employees and i hope that they keep ther jobs and continue developing the best 3d application around!

New videos

Just posted a couple of videos doing some rigging in XSI.

New image in the gallery

This image was done to commemorate the decommissioning of 700 Naval Air Squadron. The squadron are disbanding on the 13th of march after 10 years of flying the Merlin. Different versions of the framed print are to be presented to all the previous Commanding Officers and to the industry partners Agusta Westland, Lockheed Martin and Rolls Royce.

What have i been up to ??

Well work wise its been a mixture really. Ive been working on some new prints for one of the RN Merlin squadrons. The main bulk of work is the Merlin helicopter trainer ive been working on for the MOD. Its a combination of 3d and flash and is used to train the aircrew and maintenance crews about the aircraft's systems.

The trainer consists of a interactive cockpit with live instrument systems, Internal VR tour of the internal components, and a load of other systems The bit i am currently working on is a transmission module showing things like engine drives and gearbox interactions.

Its all pretty good stuff if i don't say so myself (try not to sound too big headed!) but unfortunately as is always the case i can't show none of this stuff as its restricted bah !

Anyway there's just a little insite on how i put beans on the table for the kids!!

More work on the Seaking

Well again things are really busy so poor old Seaking is progressing slowly. But i got to say its a case of loads of work for very little visual gain in this one! Ive done a fair bit to this model loads of tweaks and as you can see the rotor head.

I'm aiming to get the modeling wrapped up this week to start the texturing soon!.

Also i can unveil the next aircraft project for you which is a Westland Seaking. I started this a little while ago but i should be back onto this one very soon. It will have 2 variants a SAR Mk 5 and a ASAC airborne early warning version.
